About Me

I’m Solène, aka the Sherlock of words.
Since 2016, I’ve been helping my international clients solve their language cases from English and Italian to French (France and Switzerland).

My mission: put bad translations and poor communication behind bars, once and for all!

I refuse to work with clients who

are disrespectful of my work and/or the people I’m working with;
are asking for translation against my value (promoting values I’m not advocating);
don’t want to understand the importance of good communication;
don’t respect foreign laws (yes, it is illegal in France to have only one client full time as a freelancer);
don’t respect me and try to diminish me.

This is what motivates me to do my best work

When I have to work on a translation project, I have to feel a connection with the project manager or the person who requested it. Communication is key for me, and this is only with good communication that I want to give the best of myself.

As a writer in my native language, this is how I would describe my style

I love writing in a gender-neutral way. Why? Because no one should feel left aside when reading a text. Gender(neutral(or epicene) writing is a rising issue in France, and it’s not (only) about using a middle point (·). There are so many techniques and solutions to include each and every reader in French, it’s amazing what language can do!

This is how I would describe my work style

I’m a professional before anything else, and I intend to treat my clients as professionals too.
With La Linguistiquerie, the collective of freelance translators and interpreters I created in 2018, we love working together to bring a new dimension to large and/or urgent translation projects.
I love working in a team, and the collective is the perfect setting to do that. We offer joined services for translations and interpretations while ensuring consistency in style, terminology, and communication.

This is how I solved a recent communication challenge with a client

Recently, with my collective La Linguistiquerie, we faced a communication challenge with a direct client. Being all independent with no formal business structure, all 8 of us were involved in communicating with the client, creating confusion on their side about who to contact for what.
We decided in planning a call with everyone to clear things up, and stated on choosing a unique point of contact for each project to be performed for this client.
Ever since, the communication has been way smoother and the client is happier than ever.
