To solve a recent terminology problem while translating a government document on human trafficking, I first understood the source text and its context, including the author and target audience. Then, I looked at similar texts in both languages to understand how professionals translated and used the terminology. This allowed me to see how other professionals in the field were using the terms in both languages. Finally, I researched the frequency and context of the terms in a legal corpus using SketchEngine to choose the most appropriate translation based on the context of the document, usage in other documents, and research results. By understanding the source text, looking at other texts in both languages, and conducting research using a legal corpus, I was able to successfully resolve the terminology problem and deliver an accurate and high-quality translation of the document.

My methodology for a translation project involves understanding the source text’s context, tone, and audience, conducting research, creating a glossary, translating, proofreading, and delivering the final product. I prioritize accuracy and precision, especially important for legal translations, and maintain consistency through the use of glossaries and translation memories. I ensure the translation is culturally appropriate and free from errors before delivering it to the client. M y professional methodology for a translation project involves a comprehensive and meticulous approach to ensure that the final product is accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate. I am open to feedback and questions to ensure the final product meets their expectations.

I do not accept projects where the client simply wants me to proofread a machine-translated document and send back a corrected version. This is because it is often more work than anticipated, and the result is not what the client truly needs. Additionally, this approach does not justify a lower payment than my usual rates. As a professional translator, my goal is to provide high-quality translations that accurately convey the intended meaning and tone of the source text. Proofreading a machine translation does not meet this standard and can ultimately harm the client’s reputation. Therefore, I prefer to work with clients who understand the value of human translation and are willing to invest in a quality product.
