In a recent project translating a legal document from Japanese to English, I encountered a term that didn’t have a direct equivalent in English due to its cultural and legal specificity. Instead of relying on a literal translation, I researched how similar cases were translated in international law contexts, consulted with a legal expert, and chose a phrase that accurately conveyed the intended meaning without distorting the legal nuance. I also added a translator’s note for clarity. This ensured the translation was not only correct but also meaningful to the target audience.

I actively continue learning by attending online courses, reading industry blogs, and following updates from professional translation associations. I also stay sharp by working on a variety of real-world projects, participating in language forums, and collaborating with other linguists. This helps me stay current with new terminology, tools, and trends in the industry. I’m always looking for ways to grow, whether it’s by improving my CAT tool skills or deepening my knowledge of specific subject areas.

I refuse to work with clients who do not respect the value of professional translation, such as those who insist on extremely low rates, unrealistic deadlines, or lack transparency in their communication. I believe that successful collaboration is built on mutual respect, trust, and professionalism. I also choose not to work on projects that go against my personal values or involve harmful, unethical, or misleading content.

What motivates me most is the impact my work has on people. Knowing that my translations help others understand, connect, and communicate across cultures gives me a strong sense of purpose. I love the constant learning that comes with each project new topics, new terminology, and the challenge of finding just the right words. Delivering high-quality work and seeing a satisfied client motivates me to keep growing and giving my best every day.
