Hi, I’m Mirko, gamer, game localizer and independent translator with more than 11 years of experience in the field. If you need help with your project, do get in touch and I’ll be happy to discuss it with you!

This is how I solved a recent terminology, style, or linguistic challenge

I was recently asked to translate a 1000 words blog post about a MMO game (battle royale style) for MS Windows, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

Lacking specific instructions about writing style, target audience and such (since the style guide I had was more generic), what I did was research and read up on the game in order to understand its mechanics, overall “feel” and main target groups, also watching gameplay videos to actually see it “in action”.

Then I considered what the main goal of the source text was and whom it talked to, translating it with a high degree of creativity, with an informal, lighthearted style and wordplays to match both the game mechanics and the overall style of the source text.
