About Me

I have a deep understanding of the nuances of the Japanese language as well as the culture surrounding it, gained from years of experience living in the country. I can confidently produce coherent, natural sounding sentences from a complex Japanese context, as well as convey linguistical shades of grey. I have much experience translating creative works, mainly Netflix dramas and manga works, but am capable of translating a wide variety of topics.

This is how I solved a recent terminology, style, or linguistic challenge

When a character in a manga I translated called Yankee Kun and the White Cane Girl introduced himself, he said his name and then words describing what Kanji to use to spell his name. The character’s name is Kurokawa Morio, so instead of potentially confusing the read with Kanji terminology, I instead had him introduce himself as “Kurokawa Morio, Kurokawa like how a raven squaks, and Morio like Mario. “ Of course, sometimes it’s better to leave the cultural element in for a more enjoyable experience, but I did not think so in this case.
