Sustainability
The climate emergency is upon us. As a small business, I do all I can to minimise my carbon footprint. Don’t hesitate to ask me if you want to know more.
Translating is like solving puzzles, with the difference that there isn’t a right or a wrong answer. There is, however, a feeling of accomplishment. I strive to find what I feel are the best solutions to translation riddles, such as wordplay, cultural references and character limits.
My professional methodology for a standard translation project is
Translation brief
First of all, I need some key information:
Language pair
Deadline
Delivery format
Audience and purpose: who is your target? What is the purpose of the text?
Reference material: do you have glossaries, style guides or existing translations? This is important to be consistent with your previous translations and your brand image.
Setting up project in translation software
I set up a new project on my translation tool with a dedicated translation memory and termbase.
Research and draft translation
I research on the topic of your translation, add terms to the termbase, and write a first draft.
Revision
I go through the text again to make sure the translation is accurate and idiomatic.
Proofreading
I run QA checks on my software and proofread the target text in its final format to avoid any typos or formatting issues.
This is how I manage terminology consistency in my area of expertise
I create and maintain termbases created using memoQ for each of my clients and domains. I only add terms to them after thorough research, and, if necessary, I modify them according to client feedback.
