I have double mother tongue (I am Spanish but I lived in France during my first 20 years and then moved to Spain). I have a degree in translation and more than 20 years’ experience in translation (my language pairs are FR>ES and ES>FR). I am an advanced user of TM tools such as Trados Studio and Wordfast.
This is how I solved a recent terminology, style, or linguistic challenge
Sometimes, and especially in marketing and advertising, the translated word makes it less expressive. In one of my recent jobs, I was asked to translate a document from Spanish to French and it was about “la isla bonita”. The client idea was to translate this expression in French but international culture makes it more consistent to keep it in Spanish so I did and explained it to the client who congratulated me once the text was published.
