Background in publishing
In the mists of time, after a BA in English Literature and Information Science and a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation, I got my start in publishing as freelance book editor and proofreader working on cookbooks, garden books, business books, 100-ways-to-fold-a-napkin books … you get the idea.
I pivoted my love for books into a career as freelance translator and got my accreditation for Afrikaans and English translation from the South African Translators’ Institute. In 2019, I even won the prize for outstanding service translation for a non-fiction title on educational psychology.
The cherry on top is that I have also been admitted to the High Court of South Africa (Western Cape Division) as an Afrikaans into English sworn translator.
Content I translate
Legal and personal documents
I work with private individuals and law firms to translate personal and official documents, such as birth, death and marriage certificates, educational records, bank statements, lease agreements, affidavits, wills, etc.
I also channel my inner nerd by helping SaaS, e-commerce or digital marketing companies with UI/UX localization of their website and app user interface in Afrikaans or for the English-speaking South African market.
I kicked around in the corporate world for a while as well, so I’m capable of putting a corporate spin on business documents, such as annual reports, press releases, presentations, newsletters, brochures and other marketing collateral.
Aaaah, my favourite child! I have 18 years’ experience working on textbooks, study guides, business titles, self-help books, cookbooks, true crime, self-published memoir, and many more.
