“What a piece of work is man!” - Hamlet, Act 2, Scene 2 Humankind, what a feat of engineering! The medical field is a never-ending source of knowledge, and I am happy to have been translating, interpreting, and transcribing medical projects since 2003.
A job well done: that’s what motivates me. Each language project is unique: one school transcript translation isn’t the same as the next; one real estate contract translation isn’t the same as the next; one medical interpretation isn’t the same as the next. My motivation is to do my best to help my customers get their message across to their audience. And that means conveying the meaning of the message in a way that the audience easily understands.
My professional methodology for a standard translation project is
Quick first draft: highlighting terms for investigation and pondering Second draft: investigation > shortlist of acceptable terms Third draft: mechanical proofreading, final decisions on alternate translations Fourth draft: final cleanup And, if necessary, a fifth go-around with read-aloud of the text
