Who am I?

My name is José Pedro and I am a Portuguese freelance translator with a translation-oriented university degree who started his journey back in 2020.

What do I do?

As you know, the job of a translator can’t be narrowed to translation itself but should always be widened to localization. What I do is game localization: I must target certain types of texts to a certain target audience (in my case, the people, the culture, and the language of Portugal), and assure its quality in what regards consistency, terminology, semantics, syntax, morphology, and grammar. Also, I must keep in mind what kind of text am I dealing with and whether I should use a formal or informal approach.

What can you expect?

What to expect from an avid gamer since the age of six who loves both games and languages? No more than a top tier Gaming localization!!!

Not only am I passionate about tongues, but I also love playing with them… I mean, with their words! In my opinion, a linguist should always give their all to bring the best out of a piece of text, should it be through translation, localization, proofreading, or targeting… What we do goes beyond work, it is art. Being artists, we should always try to get a smile out of the reader, and I surely do my best to pursue that purpose! Despite my casualness, I always put a good professional effort into my work, pursuing every bit of detail in order to assure that I have done everything in my hands to let every piece of text tell its own story.

Final words

Both my degree in Applied Languages and my experience as a translator have provided me with extensive knowledge regarding the use of CAT tools such as MemoQ.
Other than that, having dealt with all kinds of texts since the day that I enrolled in university until today, and doing that with excellence, I feel that I can add value to every project.
