I use AI tools on a daily basis to…

research terminology,
get quick ideas for alternative formulations when I am stuck, and
save time having re-formatted dates, units, etc. for the target copy

SPEECH RECOGNITION
I am a heavy user of speech recognition. It is not new but in constant development, and there are new & interesting solutions every few months now. I love to experiment with different solutions, such as:

built-in iOS speech recogition
Using the iPhone as a mic for dictating directly in MemoQ (my main translation tool)
Windows speech recognition
ChatGPT dictating function
Dedicated software such as Dragonnaturallyspeaking

This is how I solved a recent terminology, style, or linguistic challenge

I had to perform a terminologically challenging translation in a very short period of time. The copy was about to be published, so there was no confidentiality issue and I could try an experiment with ChatGPT4 (via Edge):

I fed the bot with a large part of the copy
I asked it to act as a subject matter expert, extract all the technical terms, and propose three German translations for each of them.

It did. And as the version integrated with Edge even shows the sources it has used, I was able to quickly check the best results from the best sources at their source.

This helped me accelerate terminology research in a way I couldn’t have imagined a year ago.
