About Me

Translator with many hats

I have an M.A. in Translation-Localisation and Multilingual Communication from Université Rennes 2, France, where I learned all the aspects of the translation business, from translation to project management, including use of CAT tools, DTP, XML technical writing, and IT.

I am a professional translator with +7 years of experience, working in several fields, including banking software, CAD software, CRM platform, SEO, or International development. My added value to the translation business is my tech-savvy side, as I offer several related services besides translation itself:

Subtitling (and all related steps);
DTP (creation, OCR, image editing);
Macro automation;
Structured or non-structured technical authoring;
DITA files optimisation for the localisation process;
Publishing management.

I am also an associate lecturer in the very same Master’s programme from which I graduated. I teach technical and specialised translation, subtitling, DTP and graphic design applied to translation, technical writing and document and multilingual management,

This is how I manage terminology consistency in my area of expertise

First, I always use a CAT Tool (mainly Trados Studio) to leverage the power of Translation Memories. When I work with a new client for the first time, I always ask if there is any glossary available. If not, I start to build one right away and add to it as I go along. I usually offer to the client to use the glossary and never hesitate to ask any additional information that could help me in the process.

When clients request literal translations, this is how I handle the situation

I try to understand why the client requests a literal translation. Is it for budget reasons? Is it because they don’t need something very elaborate that will only be transferred to the employees to make a document easier to understand?
Depending on the reason, I would try to get as much information as possible to assess the potential consequences of a literal translation and identify, with them, the best option.
