About Me

About me

Hello, my name is Hannah and I am a Freelance Persian to English Translator and a native English speaker. I have long had a fascination with language, something which led to me completing a Bachelor of Languages degree at the Australian National University in 2014, where I majored in Persian but also studied Arabic and Russian. As part of my Persian major, I also completed a semester of study in Iran. I formed a deep connection with the Persian language and culture during this time, something that remains with me still.

My professional methodology for a standard translation project is

Research. Read up about the translation topic and ask questions about the context of the project. This is to ensure that I understand who the target audience is, as well as the cultural context and purpose of the translation.
Plan. Schedule and organise the project, to ensure that the turnaround times and deadlines are clear and that the translation will be completed to the highest standard in an acceptable amount of time. Consider formatting requirements and what software/systems are needed for the task.
Translate. Complete the project, keeping the client updated and notifying them of any unexpected issues or challenges.
Review. Proofread and edit my work, and arrange for another translator to review the project if needed.
Delivery. Deliver the project before the deadline, ensuring it meets the specified requirements, and make any changes as requested.

This is how I continue my learning in my area of expertise

I am a Member of the Australian Association of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) and the Australian Association of Literary Translators (AALITRA), as well as being a Premium ProZ member and a student currently completing a Master’s degree in translation.

I regularly attend seminars, lectures and online training courses to keep up with the latest developments in the translation industry and improve my skills in my areas of interest.
