This is how I solved a recent terminology, style, or linguistic challenge
I started working for a client about a year ago. First, the company needed classic translations. But a few weeks ago, they hired a new, younger project manager. Their contents are now full of puns and local (UK) references. We had to talk to find the right tone and I discovered a new passion for transcreation.
When clients request literal translations, this is how I handle the situation
I talk to the client and explain the benefits of a more subtle work. I also show examples of both approaches. Usually, this is enough.
I recently had that kind of discussion with a client about inclusive writing. I explained my point of view and the client thanked me for my help and for my frankness.
