Before going freelance, I spent four years working in-house for one of the world’s largest translation providers.
This gave me the opportunity to translate for industry-leading clients and develop specialisms in three main areas:
- Marketing & advertising
Examples of content I translate
Press releases and marketing brochures
I have translated press releases and marketing brochures for clients including top sports car manufacturers and specialists in sensor technology and process automation.
Some of the most fun and creative translations I have worked on include magazine articles about sports car driving experiences and restoring classic cars.
I have translated instruction manuals and other technical documentation for forklift trucks, flow-monitoring devices and many other products.
I have translated presentations and subtitles for training courses on highly technical subjects such as working on a high-voltage battery.
This is what motivates me to do my best work
An interesting subject matter and a friendly client who values quality as highly as I do!
This is how I solved a recent terminology, style, or linguistic challenge
Consistency with existing translations
I recently translated some help pages relating to an online portal. The source text referred to various button and menu names that I knew were likely to have already been translated for the English version of the portal.
I sent the client a list of the names and they were able to provide the existing translations. We now have a Google doc for similar situations in future projects.
My modus operandi for communicating with clients is
to make sure all of the essential details are agreed up front and to keep the client informed of my progress, letting them know of any issues or questions as soon as possible.
