About Me

Wannabe Indie Author Becomes Translator

I always knew I wanted to become an author when I grew up, but my parents warned me to find something else to do in the meantime (afterall, the bills don’t pay themselves). Because I didn’t want to stray too far from my dreams, I decided to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and work on other people’s books while my own novel was still in the works.

Life Doesn’t Like Plans

When I graduated in 2019, I applied for multiple publishing houses in my country… sadly, no one wants to hire you unless you have 3+ years of experience in the field. I then decided to become a freelancer and built up my portfolio, so I joined UpWork, where I was immediately hired… as a virtual assistant and legal translator.

A New Attempt

In the end, working as an assistant or general translator had never been my dream. It kept the money coming, so I was happy to keep growing my client list. But the truth is that books are my passion, so what I really want is to become a literary translator.
I joined Fiverr in 2022, where I was lucky to be hired to translate 3 amazing novels, and I am joining Zingworld now, in 2024, in hopes of finding even more authors who need my services.

Some fun facts about me…

I love cats.
My hobbies include knitting, reading, writing, crochetting, and sudoku.
I’m a die hard fan of “The Hunger Games”.
It took me 10 years to finish the 1# draft of my manuscript… (I’m not proud of how long it took me, but at least I got it done).

This is how I continue my learning in my area of expertise

Not only do I read a lot of books on writing, but I also like to read and compare different translations of the same book. Sometimes I will even attempt to translate a chapter of a book (for fun) before comparing it to the “official” translation.

I also enjoy translating full-length novels for fun (and personal use), or proofreading and enhancing someone else’s fan translation of a published work (namely, manwhas and mangas translated using Google).
