I am a bilingual lawyer with 15 years of professional experience. I was the designated translator at the law firm where I worked for ten years. Also, while working at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, I was required to translate documents as well as oral communication. I conducted translations for legal and academic purposes, before becoming a full-time professional translator, and am aware that translation is not simply about accuracy, but also about tone. The meaning of any translation must not change, but also, the tone and intent of the message must remain the same.
I hold a Master’s degree from the University of Arizona (James E. Rogers College of Law), a LL.B. from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, a B.A. in Liberal Arts (Psychology) also from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, and an Extension Certificate in Advanced Studies on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from the American University, (Washington College of Law). Many of my papers have been published in both Spanish and English.
This is what motivates me to do my best work
Throughout my career I’ve had the opportunity to compare good quality translations with others made in a hurry or by people not sufficiently acquainted with the terms involving the specific area of knowledge. Clients deserve to be treated with respect and providing high quality translation is imperative.
This is how I manage terminology consistency in my area of expertise
I have a lot of experience translating legal documents, and am a registered lawyer in my native country. Therefore, it is very rare for me to encounter a unfamiliar legal terms. Nevertheless, if that was the case, besides checking text books and legal dictionaries, I may ask one of my colleagues (lawyers), with expertise in a specific area of law, to double check to make sure that I have used correct terminology.
This is how I would describe my work style
Efficient, responsible, good customer service.
Cristina often translated educational and legal documents for me to submit to embassies and universities. She is professional. She understands the requirements, and always submits timely, perfect translations.
Great attitude and the translation was as perfect as it could be. Would totally recommend.
