About Me

Graduate in Physics at the Universidad de Sevilla, Spain.

One year post-graduate research in Theoretical Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich.

One year post-graduate research at the Sektion Physik (Nuclear Physics Department) of the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich.

Since July 2005 I have been working as a technical translator, and since June 2006 also as a proofreader. With a university degree in Physics, specialization in Fundamental Physics, and fluent in German and English, my professional goal is to bring this knowledge together in the translation of scientific texts. I consider that my most important attribute is that, being a scientist, I will never let any errors slip into my translations. Unfortunately, I often find slight (and not so slight) mistakes in scientific translations and want to contribute to ending this.

I have eighteen years of experience in Industrial Engineering (automation technology) and specialize in translating medical equipment documentation, especially for Implantology. I am, however, well-qualified and experienced in translating all kinds of scientific texts, but I am very cautious with the target language as well.

With a passion for mountain sports, currently, I am looking forward to translating in this field, too.

I am in the process of learning the Subtitling and Transcreation techniques to broaden my fields of work to the mountain sports industry.

My professional methodology for a standard translation project is

I have received very positive feedback both from the agencies and the end clients since the beginning of my career due to my analytical mind and obsession with perfection, which are intrinsic to my scientific education at the University.
I have worked for just 3 agencies for 18 years and the workload was so huge I could not take any more jobs.
My methodology is the following:
-When I accept a new topic, I spend time researching the web until I am confident enough to ensure that what I write makes sense.
I keep track of all technical terms and I make a global check for all of them before delivering, so I can guarantee consistency.
I ask the PM or the end client anything that is unclear, so I never deliver any job if I am not confident.
I review in both languages before delivering, until the job is flawless.

This is what motivates me to do my best work

The reason why I love my job and enjoy Mondays is that technology, science and medicine are alive, those fields are constantly developing and I get to know first-hand about the latest innovations and discoveries. As a scientist, I am a curious mind and sometimes I can’t avoid doing my own extra research on the Internet “just for fun”.
My latest challenge is finding jobs also in a new field: outdoor sports because that’s my hobby, I have also researched a lot on materials and technologies and I would also be enormously motivated!

I refuse to work with clients who

Sometimes I receive job emails from new agencies and they just state a language pair, the volume of words and a delivery date.
I think that it is essential to say the topic and the CAT Tool required.
I can not understand that they are expecting any translator to translate any kind of text. I would not be able to translate business and commerce content, and many legal translators would not be able to translate quantum physics, for example.
The fact that the specialization is missing, gives me a clue about the (lack of) professionalism of the agency.
